There are many ways to describe Christian Science. To me, one of the most powerful ways is through the concept of freedom. Who doesn't yearn for freedom -- to break free from injustice, prejudice, and even sickness? As a Christian Science Practitioner and Teacher, I have devoted my life to helping people claim their right to freedom from sickness and sin.

People like to celebrate freedom in places like the 2.5-mile brick-lined “Freedom Trail” here in Boston, Massachusetts, which honors American revolutionaries and abolitionists. But even more, we want to feel free. Really free. Free to live with health, joy, and purpose. This is what Christ Jesus’ healings show to be possible, and why he said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

The founder of Christian Science writes, “Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: ‘Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!’ Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free! This is your divine right.” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 227)
